Professional Counsellor and former professional pilot supporting men and aviation professionals

Counselling for Men and Professionals in Canada

Chris Graham is a professional counsellor and former professional pilot providing confidential online counselling to clients across Canada, with a particular focus on working with men and aviation professionals.

My background in aviation gives me first-hand understanding of the culture, demands, and unspoken pressures of professional flying—alongside the responsibility, discipline, and identity that often come with it.

I support individuals who are used to responsibility, self-reliance, and pushing through—often at the cost of their own emotional wellbeing. Many of the men I work with are functioning well on the outside, yet feel disconnected, worn down, or unsure how long they can keep going this way.

Counselling for Men Who Are Tired of Carrying Everything Alone

Many men find it difficult to choose counselling.

In our culture, men are often allowed a narrow range of emotional expression—perhaps happiness, frustration, or anger—but not the full spectrum of human experience. Over time, this can lead to emotional disconnection, difficulty naming feelings, or a sense that something is missing, even when life appears “fine” from the outside.

I’ve lived parts of this myself, both personally and within high-performance professional environments. I don’t believe emotional disconnection is a healthy or sustainable way to approach life. When feelings are consistently pushed aside, life can gradually become unbearable for the individual and strained for those around them.

Counselling offers a different way forward—one that does not require you to abandon who you are or become someone else.

Working With Men, Professionals, and Pilots

I work with men across Canada who are navigating:

  • Chronic stress, burnout, or emotional shutdown

  • High-responsibility professional roles

  • Career or identity transitions

  • Aviation-specific stressors, pressures, and career concerns

  • Questions around ADHD, autistic traits, or long-standing patterns of overwhelm

  • Relationships, loss, or a sense of disconnection from self or others

As a former professional pilot, I understand the realities of aviation life—training pathways, operational pressure, schedule disruption, identity investment, and the weight of responsibility that comes with being trusted to perform under scrutiny.

For pilots and aviation professionals, I also understand the added layer of concern around confidentiality, documentation, and fear of unintended career consequences. These concerns are valid and can be discussed openly and transparently.

A Direct, Respectful Approach to Counselling

I offer a direct, no-nonsense, yet compassionate approach to counselling.

This is not therapy focused on pathologizing, diagnosing, or forcing emotional disclosure. We work at a pace that respects your nervous system, your role, and your lived reality.

For those newer to counselling, we can focus on grounding, emotional awareness, and practical strategies. For those already comfortable with inner work, I also hold space for deeper exploration, including shadow work and archetypal perspectives, when appropriate.

The goal is not to “fix” you—but to help you understand yourself more clearly and live with greater steadiness and integrity.

Why the Therapeutic Relationship Matters

There are many approaches to counselling—psychotherapy, talk therapy, or whatever term you prefer.

Research consistently shows one central factor: the relationship with the therapist matters as much as, if not more than, the specific techniques used.

Effective counselling requires:

  • Mutual respect

  • A non-judgemental stance

  • A sense of safety and trust

  • A container where you can speak honestly, without pressure

This foundation allows meaningful exploration, growth, and change to occur—at your pace.

Counselling Within the Canadian Context

I provide online counselling services within Canada, working in alignment with Canadian professional standards and ethical guidelines.

My combined background in aviation and counselling allows me to support clients in safety-sensitive and regulated professions with a clear understanding of confidentiality, scope of practice, and professional risk considerations. Questions about privacy, records, or professional impact are always welcome.

Taking the Next Step

Choosing counselling is a courageous act. It takes courage to be vulnerable, to question long-standing patterns, and to choose something different for yourself and those you care about.

If you’re considering counselling, I offer a brief consultation to see whether working together feels like a good fit. There is no pressure or obligation—just an opportunity to ask questions and explore next steps.

If you decide to reach out, I would be honoured to walk alongside you in this work.
